Social Media Consultants are abound on the internet. Yet it may be difficult to understand what does a social media consultant actually do? Let me share with you a first-hand look at the life of a social media consultant and break down any industry jargon. By the end of this article, you will know if it makes sense for you to hire a social media consultant.
What Does a Social Media Consultant Actually Do?
A social media marketing consultant, is the expert you call to help you improve your social media marketing efforts. They, and I specialize in social media marketing and make it possible through Famoid’s services and the services of other such companies. Depending on the needs of the client, I may work on helping build the right social media content to increase engagement, followers, website clicks and leads.
A social media consultant may also look at your marketing funnel on a particular social media and help you optimize it. It may not seem like much, but having a landing page go from a 10% conversion to a 40% conversion rate will drastically increase bottom line.
Broadly speaking as a social media consultant, my work falls into two categories. In the simplest terms, those two categories are teaching and doing. Let’s dive in a bit deeper to help you understand how this looks and if hiring a social media consultant is right for you.
The Doing Category
You wouldn’t represent yourself in a court of law, nor would you do your own taxes. Leave building a social media marketing strategy for your business up to the expert. As a consultant I’ll work with you to help build a strategy that drives key business goals.
I know the in’s and outs of every social media account and how to leverage your unique position in the market place to gain the most leads, sales, and revenue.
Imagine if you will you desire to outsource your digital marketing and social media efforts. You need someone to take over running your accounts like Facebook and Instagram. Creating all the content, writing all the copy, performing all the community management, and growing the accounts.
As a social media consultant, you would hire me in to run the accounts. Not only that, you would be getting my expertise and have me manage a team of people to help you and your brand to excel in the digital space.
Here is how that process looks:
The first thing you would do is figure out your social media marketing budget. If you are unaware of how much you should spend on social media marketing, check out this article on how much to pay for social media marketing as a guideline.
The average marketing budget is $200-350 per day or $6000-$10,000 a month. Now I know that might be a big number for a lot of businesses. That takes into account an average of all business of all sizes. I understand that a business needs someone to work with them at different levels. I am happy to find a solution where we can work together.
After figuring out your budget (which predicates how much “doing” my team and I get to take over for your) we create the scope of work. The scope of works lets us figure out exactly how to move your business forward using the resources available to you. In a scope of work we determine:
- How many posts a day do you need per platform?
- What assets do we have available to use, and how much needs to be created?
- What are the metrics for success?
- What is the timeline look like for this project? Is it a 3-month campaign, or an ongoing rolling basis?
- How can we optimize lead generation for your business?
As a social media consultant, my job is to help you grow your business and I need to figure out exactly how. If I can’t help your business grow, then you won’t keep investing in my services. After we work out the budget, and the scope of work, we begin the execution. With that being said let me break down the stages of execution.
The execution stages are:
- Social media account audit and strategy
- Content curation and Creation
- Content approvals and revisions
- Social media scheduling and posting
- Community management
- Reporting and adapting
Social Media Account Audit and Strategy
During this stage, I start by looking at your current social media accounts, marketing efforts, and content strategy. I determine what is working, what isn’t working, what opportunities there are in the marketplace and much more.
The account audit leads to the social media strategy that will work for you. We will define short-term, and long-term goals and the pathway to get you there. Along with the metrics to track, and the process to adapt to the ever-changing social media landscape.
Social Media Content Curation and Creation
During this stage, we look at where can we curate content to “feed the beast.” Not all content needs to be created by you. Curating content from other accounts can round out your content and help alleviate the burden of creating content. This allows us to focus our resources on creating high-quality content.
The content we do create is going to generate the most impact. This is the content that drives sales, leads, and massive engagement. During this stage, we create all the content needed for your campaign.
Content Approvals and Revisions
During this stage, we present the curated and created content to the client. Showcasing exactly how everything is going to be laid out. The client gets to make revisions as needed. When the content is approved we move onto the final stages.
Social Media Scheduling, Community Management, and Measuring
The last three stages happen rather simultaneously. The content will be scheduled and posted on your behalf automatically by programs we utilize. From there my team and I perform the community management, responding to comments and generating an engaged community. The more we focus on building the community, the greater organic growth we receive. Afterward, we measure and adapt as needed.
Overall, that is the breakdown of what it is like to have a social media consultant take over your social media marketing. Your brand will grow year after year through our tried and true process. If this sounds like the right fit for you don’t hesitate to get in touch. (link)
Not all clients are financially ready to outsource their entire social media marketing. Sometimes they need to be trained. The other half of what does a social media consultant actually do is teaching.
The Teaching Category
One of the best parts of being a Social media consultants is that I get to be a teacher. I can show you how to go from point A to point B faster, cheaper, and easier with social media. Typically I work at teaching you how to use social media to drive the right results without spending all day online. Trust me when I say social media marketing can be a huge waste of time if you don’t know what you are doing.
Typically speaking, the brands who benefit the most from bringing in a social media consultant to teach instead of doing are…
- Solo-preneurs who need to learn how to generate revenue with social media right out of the gate.
- A small business that may have an assistant or intern working for them but doesn’t honestly know what to do on social.
- Medium size business that has a marketing team that needs to optimize a campaign.
Overall teaching social media marketing allows us to cater the content and the results to your brand. In my experience, teaching can be a much better investment.
For instance, if you have never run an Influencer marketing campaign. I can come in and help you identify the right influencers, build their right pitch, show you the right programs and set you up for success. Afterward, you can take that same approach and run a second or third campaign.
If that influencer marketing campaign generates you $20,000 in increased revenue, and only cost you $2-5,000. You would have netted a massive positive return on your investment. Afterward, you repeat the influencer marketing campaign and your return increases even further.
Usually, social media consulting entails:
- Growing followers on social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
- Generating leads through social media advertising
- Creating the right type of content
- Train your staff on social media marketing, content creation, and more.
